The Case of the Headless Ant

This article was about a special type of fly that can lay eggs on a fire ant. The fly’s babies maneuver inside the fire ant and start to eat it inside-out. They also said they way the flies find the ants, are by the scent of the fire ant venom. They said that by doing studies on this it will help them determine the fire ant population. It also points out that the poisonous substance in the fire ant venom is the nitrogen.

I think that that is pretty cool. But at the same time scarey because if other insects can do that to animals, then what says there isn’t a species out there that can do the same to us humans. Also I believe that researching something like this is pretty much pointless. Because I don’t think anyone should really care about the population of fire ants or flies. I hope they start to focus on more important things then insects.

The Blob

My article is about how a group of Astronomers saw an unidentified object far away. In this article it explains what the Astronomers believe it is. They call it the blob but the real name is a Lyman-alpha blob. They think it could be another galaxy meeting with another. Or a group of gas, stars, or dust.

I personally believe it could be another galaxy merging with another. But no matter what it is they should check on it or get a closer look to make sure it isn’t bad. I think space is a little weird and I can never really understand how things go on and what makes them. But im glad we have some people in our country that can. I also wish we could get a closer look at those types of things in space.

A New Fish Discovered

This article was about a new species they named Psychedelica, which was recently discovered in Indonesia by divers. A scientist observed it and said it was like a frogfish but the features it had were a lot different. Like they hop and crawl everywhere and they have two eyes facing forward like humans do. They are way different then regular fish too. They have jets that they squirt to help move them along the ground.

I think that this fish was a pretty weird discovery. I wonder how long it has existed. Also I wonder how it was made, like if two other fish breed and their babies came out to create a new fish called the Psychedelica. I would like to study more on fish because I think that the ocean life is a pretty amazing thing to observe. I hope scientist will be able to discover more wierd looking fish.

Blood Falls

On the continent of Antarctica, there is a tip of a glacier that is not so much of a white but of a red. This tip is called blood falls. What happened to this area of Antarctica was that the water was rich with iron. And when it was exposed to oxygen it turned into a red color. Scientists think that the water that supplied the iron was from a salty underground lake. They also think that about 1.5 million years ago, a giant glacier moved up over the lake causing no oxygen to live there. This also made organisms that could actually survive without oxygen. Scientists also think that this can open up possibilities for organisms to live on other planets throughout the universe.

I think it’s pretty amazing how now things can live without oxygen. Also it would be pretty sweet to live on another plant. I think that will probably happen sometime in the future because science is improving every single minute. I also think that the way that glacier was formed was very cool. And it’s cool how the color turned out a rusty red color.

Oil spill in the Ocean

My article was about the Exxon Valdez disaster that happened in 1989. They were talking about how now in 2009 twenty years later, the area and the animals that live there have still not made a recovery. The main animal they focused on in this article was the orcas which are also called killer whales. They named the group of killer whales AT-1 and in 1989 they contained twenty-two whales. And as of now, they only have seven whales remaining. They also said the disaster separated some other killer whale families and other types of fish too.

I think that we all should try to help the killer whales and other animals in that habitat so there will be no extinctions or endangered species. Also I don’t think that we should be driven that much oil threw animals habitats like that. We should find an alternative route, or a different way to get that oil to its destination. I think killer whales are one of the most beautiful whales of all so I really don’t want them to go extinct. I hope they find a way to help these dying animals for our future.

air pollution

This article is about things that cause air pollution and what we can do to stop it. This article tells us how many cases of air pollution can lead to respiratory diseases. They said that some programs that try to help stop some of the pollution have been helping somewhat. Another thing is that the main invention that is causing all the pollutions is cars and other vehicles from the exhaust and other things exposed from the vehicle. It says the most likely effective way to neutralize that problem is to use alternate sources of fuel for our vehicles.

I think that everyone should read this article because it helps us understand the main problems of our filthy air. I also believe we should start to manufacture a lot more vehicles that take alternate types of fuels such as solar energy and biodiesel. I think air pollution is a big factor of a lot of sickness and other diseases. I hope that our country comes together to make our air a lot better for our future. And as we do that I believe the rate of deaths and sicknesses will have a very significant decrease.
